It has not settled priorities; indeed, it has given academics complete freedom to investigate according to their abilities and interests, though this activity has been naturally centered in the biological area. The Corporation has contributed, among other things, to solving problems pertaining to the southern region; in fact, university scientific and technological activity is mainly related with silvoagropecuarian and acquiculture areas, possessing high economic importance in the Tenth Region.

Institutionally, research quality has been recognized by its criteria and indicators universally accepted in scientific investigation, nevertheless technological research and its application as investigation results transfer have not been equally appreciated.

When considering research compromise with its social environment, the present scenario defined by globalization and technological revolution during the late 20th century can con be ignored. Mainly because qualified resources held by the country are concentrated at Universities. There, the intellectual capital necessary to produce the changes our society demands to modernize the productive system and to reduce poverty.
